Results of the CEOM Plenary Meeting in Lisbon - November 2019
12 medical Orders attended the meeting: Albania, Belgium, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Spain and Switzerland.
7 guest organisations also attended the meeting: The Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME), the World Medical Association (WMA), the European Federation of Salaried Doctors (FEMS), the European Association of Senior Hospital Physicians (AEMH), the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), the European Union of General Practitioners (UEMO) and the European Junior Doctors (EJD).
CEOM was very honoured to welcome as guests: Dr. Wolfgang PHILIPP, Head of Unit Crisis Management and Preparedness in Health from DG SANTE (European Commission), and Mr. Paul LAFFIN, EU Public Affairs Manager of the British Medical Association (BMA).
CEOM and members’ updates:
- Dr. João DE DEUS, Head of International Affairs at the Portuguese Ordem dos Médicos, presented the national health priorities and future challenges in Portugal
- Dr. Ana LEÇA, President of the Technical Commission of Vaccination at the Portuguese Ministry of Health, presented he national vaccination challenges in her country
- Dr. SANTOS, CEOM President, presented CEOM commitments to improve vaccination coverage in Europe and the actions undertaken by CEOM participants on national level
- Dr. Wolfgang PHILIPP, Head of Unit Crisis Management and Preparedness in Health from DG SANTE (European Commission), presented the topic of vaccination in the focus of the general public and of European public health
- Dr. Nicolino D'AUTILIA and Dr. Francesco ALBERTI from the Italian delegation (FNOMCeO) presented the topic of Freedom of Movement for European Physicians via the use of IMI while insuring the respect of ethical and deontological rules by physicians in the interest of patients
- Dr. Guido MARINONI, from the Italian delegation (FNOMCeO), presented the topic of local management of chronicity in Italy, by taking the example of doctors' engagement in Lombardy
- Dr. Roland KERZMANN, CEOM 1st Vice-President and Rapporteur of the Working Group of CEOM European Observatory on Violence, moderated the round-table on the Observatory and presented updates of its work
- Dr. João REDONDO, from the Portuguese Ordem dos Médicos, made a presentation on violence against doctors with a special focus on professional burnout as a socio-psychological type of violence
- Dr. José-Ramón HUERTA, from the Spanish delegation (CGCOM), made a proposal for the 12th of March to be the European Day to Fight Violence against Doctors and Health Professionals. CEOM participants unanimously adopted this day
- Mrs. Nicola WHILE from the GMC and Mr. Paul LAFFIN from the BMA (UK), presented joint updates on Brexit
- Dr. Jean-François RAULT, CEOM Secretary-General, presented the new study of the European Observatory on Medical Demography on the determinants for new installed doctors in France
- Dr. Otmar KLOIBER, Secretary-General of the World Medical Association (WMA), presented the new revision of the WMA International Code of Medical Ethics
European Medical Organisations (EMOs) present at the Plenary presented their activity reports and updates.
On November 30th, took place the bi-annual Meeting of EMOs Presidents, hosted by CEOM. The next Meeting will be hosted by CPME and will take place in Zagreb (Croatia) on 4th of April 2020.
